As others have brought up, you should look into why iron ore costs more than silver ore. Hint: It has nothing to do with the number of ore nodes. Another potential issue with replacing silver ore nodes with iron is that this will create a large problem if silver ore later gets a more prominent use.
The tier of mats you get from salvage depends on the level of gear. 49 is the rec as the T3/4 mats are often worth more than the T5/6 mats (mainly as most people are salvaging level 80 gear which drops T5/6 mats).
